The Community College Option

When most people think of the college experience, they think of picturesque campuses with landscaped lawns, football games, cramped and cozy dorm rooms and questionable cafeteria food. Many people overlook their local community college as an option and miss out on a valuable educational opportunity.


More and more students are dispelling the myth that community college is only for students who could not get into a four-year university. The truth is that a community colleges can be a valuable and viable option for a number of reasons such as location, academic supports, occupational options, and of course, COST!


Many families are choosing to forego the high price tag pf college until a student matures . An 18 year old who hasn't yet chosen a college major or who hasn't learned how to study can use the time to explore options and learn their way while taking general education classes and before incurring a ton of debt.


Most community colleges have strong supports like tutoring labs and mentors/advisors to help students who struggle academically. For students who want a Bachelor's Degree, they have a transfer center that can help you align your classes with those that are offered at a number of partner universities.


Community colleges can also be a great option if your plan does not include earning a degree. In Chicago, a student can get industry-level training and earn certifications for a number of fields such as Culinary/Hospitality, HVAC, Electrical, Automotive , Nursing and even Pre-Aviation at a Community College and is usually cheaper than traditional trade school.


Community Colleges have a plethora of options that should not be over looked. It could serve as a launchpad or the doorway to your future career goals.
